There’s no shame in making a fashion mistake here and there — even celebrities regularly featured on best-dressed lists have been known to do so. You can, however, drastically reduce the number of style no-no’s you make by simply being aware of the common ones. Here we’ve listed 11 fashion mistakes men make:
Sweatpants
The only time these are acceptable are working out, lounging at your pad, and during finals week. Other than that, don’t bring them out. Click here for a potential exception.
Improper Tie Length
A gentleman’s tie should always end at the center of his belt buckle. Wearing a tie that’s too short or too long can make a man look incompetent.
Over-Accessorizing
Unless you’re going for a mafia look, a watch, ring, and maybe a bracelet are plenty. Click here for watch ideas.
Wrinkled Clothing
We are not saying that people consciously choose to wear wrinkled clothing. However, it looks sloppy and unprofessional when it happens. Hang up or fold your clothing right after you dry them. Pro-tip: if your shirt is wrinkled and you’re running late, you can throw it into the dryer with a small wet towel and run it for 10 minutes or so. When it comes out, it’ll be unwrinkled. Downy Wrinkle Releaser is also another quick fix.
Wearing Socks with Sandals
Why? Just why…
Tank Top with No Muscles
Come on, now. If you’re looking to pack on a few pounds of muscle mass, click here.
Oversized Clothing
The it’s-cool-to-sag-your-pants phase is dead. Swimming in your clothing is not a good look. Wear clothing that accentuates your best features.
Tight Clothing
Conversely, wearing clothing that looks like it’s been been hit by a shrink ray is a big no no. Your shirt should not show your belly when you stretch and your pants should not cut off the circulation in your legs (including your third one).
Non-Dress Socks with Dress Shoes
One of the biggest mistakes in men’s style. Avoid this like the plague.
Overbearing Brand Names
If someone looks at you and sees a barrage of brand names, you need to rethink your style. We are not saying that reppin’ your favorite brand is a bad thing; just don’t go overboard.
